uh it’s probably unfair to just single Dame Emma Thompson out because there are so many celebs you know who talk one game when it comes to Green clap trap but walk another in other words yeah I’m trying so really care about the planet you should all care about the planet hang on just off to Hollywood oh private jet yeah yeah just about to get on a big yacht and sail around the Mediterranean uh yeah but I bought some trees you see so that offsets my carbon input my carbon footprint no it does doesn’t uh butth they all do it loads of them do it I mean uh you know Taylor Swift I mean she’s a one woman ecological disaster she gets a private check to the end of the road just to buy her newspapers uh but by the way I don’t care uh as far as I’m concerned Dame Emma you get on your first class flights your private jets your private yachts I don’t care it’s up to you just don’t lecture me about just stop oil and saving the planet in the same breath so uh if you want to be an ecarrior don’t take the first class flights don’t get on those uh gas guzzling Yachts uh and uh do what you say uh not what you tell us to do uh so that’s that I don’t care but since she wants to set herself up as an ecarrior I say she’s an arant hypocrite here is Emma thomon a couple of days ago at a an Eco event another Eco protest uh expressing her support for just stop oil um well because of this um because the our green and peasant land is now turning into a bit of um bit of a disaster frankly and it’s been so awful for so long and this is the most extraordinary coming together of people and galvanizing particularly before an election because if we don’t act on this we won’t have a Countryside anymore it’s as simple as that so I do hope that people will get behind whatever organization they can feel a a connection with because they’re all here today to be supported yeah she went on to say that she does support just stop world because she supports any organization that is dealing with this uh ecological uh emergency disaster as they like to say it is some of us don’t necessarily agree with that not a whole lot of science ific evidence to prove that we’re in an emergency or that humanity is necessarily responsible for climate change no one’s saying climate isn’t changing it always did are we doing it that’s the question how much are we doing it uh and uh why should we change our lifestyles when the celebrities don’t uh let’s uh talk to Media commentator Nigel paie hi hey it’s good to hear Thompson talking about this green and pleasant land it certainly is because I recall during the brexit debate that she claimed that wasn’t a green and pleasant land anymore and I think she went to live uh in Italy oh did she for a while yeah because she was so upset about it and then when Italy was hit with covid uh she um spent the covid lockdown I believe in a very remote Scottish Highland Cottage that she had well uh two remember four years ago famously uh she turned up but you remember when Extinction Rebellion put that Sailing Boat in the middle of Picadilly circus pink colored boat and she turned up in her D in her dungar dressed down strategically to make a speech about saving the planet and then we learned subsequently that she literally got straight off a jumbo jet at Heathrow Airport in which she’d flown first class from Angeles Hollywood in other in other words uh to come to the and then you know turned up and said Save the Planet say hey you just flown across the Atlantic first class when she was quizzed on that she said well I have to because of my job oh well that’s all right then why didn’t you say I mean this this hypocrisy it’s not just em it’s all of these celebrities uh you know don’t you remember Leonardo DiCaprio turned up uh somewhere in Europe uh to receive a an ecological Warrior uh you know Save the Planet award he turned up in a private jet unbelievable I don’t I don’t particularly have a problem with people in private jets do I I don’t know I mean my heating came on about four days ago it was so cold and we had one hot day yesterday and there was like Health warnings on on how hot everywhere was I don’t need be told not to go in the sun actually I should have been told today I spent too long in it but that’s my own stupidity but it’s interesting she was there with Chris packam she was there with Del Vince Del Vince is quite interesting because he owns the um the first vegan football team forest green Rovers who only had vegan food and it was sort of right they I think they just got knocked out of the league uh this year but um but paor Emma Thompson yeah not enough me Emma Thompson is one of those Hamond hamon high you’re a bit down further down the hill of heav where you live you’re not too bad but you’re not but there a sort of group of L what do you mean I’m further down the hill I live at the very top okay I do live at the very top of the hill you you live at the top of the hill but not the hill that she lives on actually I do live on the hill she lives on if you want to know she lives a bit further down you got to get your facts right mate I’m the top of the I’m the top of the tree when it comes to hamster greener uh but uh as I agree with did you did you did you try to ban what I going to say is before we discuss your post code was that um she’s one of the I’m not going to say her but there are lovies in Hamstead who campaigned against having like things like Tesco extra or having a McDonald’s right and it and they they live in this sort of like Ivory Tower and orary people who just want to have a hurger or or a breakfast in the morning I stopped from going there and yet they try to impose on the rest of us their values their skewed values and I’m not quite sure what the values are because just stop oil to me I was watching the golf on Sunday evening Scotty Sheffer had a heart about 20 policemen Sunday came running on and having had his issues a few weeks ago um he must have been worried but they ran on toward golf green on the 18th green and sprayed orange dust well yeah I mean this is all non I just understand I just understand what golf has got to do all travelers you do Stonehenge you know it’s what about ancient monuments got to do with it but I mean going back to Emma Emma Emma Thompson she’s uh uh been seen in the last week or so on this massive great uh super yacht you know like a kind of super luxury Cruiser uh now uh I’m not sure if she sailed around on it but she certainly enjoyed some time I’m looking at a load of pictures of her on this gas ging yacht once again you know if you want to save the planet if you want to put yourself up as a beacon of light in the campaign to save the world then you shouldn’t be S be seeing uh dead on uh first class flights from Los Angeles or super yacht super Yachts are to the environment what Ronnie corett was the basketball right and you so I don’t have a problem with her going around in in a in a super yot but I I I then well I I have a I have a problem no if if if if she doesn’t then tell me that I can’t my car through there that’s the point of made is that no one should actually care what she does I don’t care by the same token she shouldn’t care what to do if I you know what you want to do if you want to drive somewhere these days there is no joy in driving anywhere I I to go up north north further than Watford actually I had to go up north last week and what used to be quite a pleasant journey was a nightmare roads closed you couldn’t go this way diversions and and it took about an hour and a half longer than it used to take and you end up thinking I’ll take no I won’t take the train because that was even worse you know we can’t get anywhere and while these people are obsessing over things that may or may not happen in the real world people can’t get to work because they’re either protesting or the roads are bad the trains are bad this is the issues that I would have thought someone with responsibility and someone with a platform like Emma Thompson should be fighting for actually the real world issues are affecting real people at this very moment yeah but but as I say I’m with you I mean as far as I’m concerned you you fly anywhere you like in your private jets get on your super Yachts fly first class whatever what do whatever you like I don’t care Drive gas guzzling cars I really don’t care but I do care if you then turn around and say we’ve all got to save the planet cuz you’re doing the square root of sod all to save the planet and then they’ll give you that clap trap about oh yeah I bought all these trees like Coldplay go on tour and say we bought these trees so that offsets what’s this what this restore nature that’s nonsense that’s absolute nonsense what’s this restore nature now slogan because I I don’t understand that I’m a simple man as I proved when I talked to you but I don’t understand how you can restore nature now to what restore nature to what it was a thousand years ago to restore before we concreted over a lot of it what exactly can we restore a friend of mine was was talking about you know he would ban the rspb because there demands to bring back things like Kites and all these other birds and and and not shooting magpi has meant the song birds have died there’s a there’s a knock on effect from trying to say things without planning without thinking through what is happening and I’m afraid it’s a knee-jerk reaction to say we got to get bring back you know restore nature restore to what what can we restore and what can we actually do to preserve what we have rather than go back to the days before the wheel was invented well I guess so I mean uh what all I’d like is a consistent message uh from the uh show business Community uh something that Pro some something that proves that they actually mean what they say as opposed to it just being virtue signaling words I mean Emma that’s four years ago now but Emma Thompson getting off a first class fight from Hollywood proceeding directly to Picadilly circus to lecture a bunch of uh you know Eco protesters about the future of the world it’s like you just destroyed the future of the world on your flight from LA I mean it’s come on it’s just so it’s so annoying to say the least I mean it was a 60th birthday she had a huge bash uh and then got a gas doing flight and came over and told us that you know yeah what what we can’t can’t do they I mean sh’s l is have consistently had bizarre bizarre VI points I don’t know what it is why can’t you just act she’s a good actress you know she makes some pretty decent films Love Actually you know Kella she wasn’t bad him Nanny M what I’m not really interested in what he has to say else how about Remains of the Day or something like that that she want an askos her for and by by the way don’t don’t don’t you dare sight Love Actually as a good film we’re not having that we’re not having that that’s that’s another reason i’ I’ve got that’s another reason I’ve got issues with Emma Thompson uh listen n always a pleasure to talk to you thanks mate

Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by media commentator Nigel Pauley to discuss Emma Thompson’s support of Just Stop Oil.

Dame Emma Thompson, BBC presenter Chris Packham and actors Miranda Richardson and Iwan Rheon have backed the actions of Just Stop Oil, as they took part in a protest persuade politicians to prioritise nature and climate.

They were among an estimated 60,000 people who marched in London to demand political action to tackle what they said was a “nature and climate crisis”.

Asked whether she backs Just Stop Oil, which this week attacked Stonehenge with orange paint, Dame Emma said: “I think I support anyone who fights this extraordinary battle.

“We cannot take any more oil out of the ground. I mean, there’s much argument about it. And I know there’s a lot of very complicated economic arguments about it.

“We have to leave all the resources in the ground, we cannot bring them out of the ground.”
