little bit about hanging around singers though cuz your dad Phil Collins yes yeah that’s it all started when Phil met Jill tavelman at the Rainbow Bar in Hollywood in 1980 Sparks flew they dated for 4 years and tied the knot in 1984 fast forward to ‘ 89 and Jane Collins makes her grand entrance into the world on March 18th from then on it was a jet setting childhood split between London in La must have been quite the Dilemma deciding between oberan or eggplant at dinner he’s at such a formidable age at the age of like five or six when they’re like wait you can’t say you’re ours and so I used to watch movies to to replicate accents actually when she was little Lily was blissfully unaware of her dad’s Fame wow just imagine that it’s a weird thing to have your dad or a parent be on a stage with everything changed I was being car buried on my dad’s shoulders when this man started to walk towards us Lily has said he had my dad’s face on his T-shirt and I didn’t quite get it then he saw my dad and asked for a photo and it was a really weird moment I was thinking why does he want a picture of my dad and why is my dad on his T-shirt slowly but surely I started to understand a truly surreal moment right but I started to get used to like that person was Phil and then when we were at home that was Dad little did Lily know then that the idilic family life was about to hit a major plot twist after a decade of marriage her parents Phil Collins and Jill tavlan announced their split in 1994 Lily was just 5 years old at the time think about how difficult it must have been for a child to see her family’s trouble splashed across the front page of the tabloids not exactly the Bedtime Story you expect rumor has it the separation was sparked by an affair Phil had with his former fiance levinia Lang in ’92 yikes drama alert and then there were those Whispers of Phil allegedly ending things with Jill over facts can you imagine a breakup note straight out of the office unfortunately none of it is true after Jill Phil tied the knot with orianne cie and their marriage ended in another messy headline making split oh and let’s not forget his first ex-wife Andrea berelli now that’s man does own up to his mistakes let’s give him credit for that for Lily the aftermath of her parents divorce was intense she moved from London to LA with her mom feeling the distance grow between her and her dad she didn’t see much of him afterwards and felt abandoned as a teenager Lily was craving her father’s attention and approval but it felt like he was hardly there she once said he may have still been alive but most of the time it felt like he was gone ouch that’s tough it was a real Heartbreaker for her especially when he went through another messy split with his third wife when she was 19 during those years Lily was in a Perpetual state of fear while battling serious issues like anorexia and bulimia woo that’s a lot on one plate she poured her heart out in her 2017 book of essays unfiltered no shame no regrets just me revealing How Deeply the divorce shook her world because my dad was often gone I never wanted to do anything that would make him stay away even longer she wrote I became extra careful about what I said and how I said it afraid he’d think I was angry or didn’t love him and the truth is I was angry I missed him and wanted him there it is truly heartbreaking Lily was brutally honest in her book saying that the relationship struggles were at the core of her deepest insecurities it took her a good decade to face those demons headon and find the guts to speak her mind to fill that’s what you call courage Lily’s autobiographical book also included a heartfelt message to her father it was an open letter to Phil in which Lily poured out her feelings she didn’t hold back saying my life felt out of control I couldn’t handle the pain and confusion surrounding my dad’s divorce and I was having a hard time balancing being a teenager with pursuing two grown-up careers which focused heavily on how I looked it must have been a heavy burden for a teenagers shoulders finally Lily found the strength within herself to forgive her father for the pain of his absence in her own words I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected I forgive the mistakes you made there’s still so much time to move forward and I want to I’m inviting you to join me I love you with all of my heart more than you’ll ever know and I’m so thankful for you I’ll always be your little girl now that shows real maturity fast forward to today and Lily’s Making Waves in Hollywood she’s landed rolls left and right and suddenly people recognize her more frequently than they do her father they’re saying well hey isn’t that Lily Collins’s dad Phil Collins himself finds it hilarious that radio stations now introduce his songs like they’re promoting Lily’s career well that’s certainly a Twist of Fame fate well well well how the turntables over the last few years while things are by no means perfect Lily and Phil have managed to patch things up a bit when Lily married Charlie Mcdowell in a secret wedding in 2021 Phil was there sharing in her special day and this despite his mobility issues which had him in a wheelchair what a fatherly dedication yeah I had my parents make speeches and uh Charlie yeah we all everyone made speeches nowadays Lily is on good terms with both her parents often posting sweet tributes to them on social media for birthdays and special occasions she even shared a heartfelt Instagram post about Phil’s final show on the Genesis reunion tour in 2022 calling it the memory of a lifetime and her dad such an inspiration pretty sweet right what’s your favorite of your dad’s songs well I so I’m going to go to Genesis but I really love I can’t dance read I remember as a kid like all of them like and earlier that Year Lily celebrated Phil’s 71st birthday with another touching message we may not get to spend time together that often but when we are face to face you really do see me you may not always believe it but please trust me when I say no matter how old I get or what life may
