Interview with Ian McKellen & Gemma Arterton for THE CRITIC

Sir Ian McKellen & Gemma Arterton interview for the acclaimed new film ‘The Critic’ Based on Anthony Quinn’s novel Curtain Call, THE CRITIC is adapted by Academy Award® nominee Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal) and directed by Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie, Shopgirl). The film is produced by Jolyon Symonds for Fearless Minds and Bill Kenwright and David Gilbery for BK Studios.

THE CRITIC is a deliciously dark and sharp-witted thriller set in 1930s London ‘theatreland’ featuring an all-star cast including Ian McKellen, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Ben Barnes, Alfred Enoch, Romola Garai and Lesley Manville.

When the most feared and vicious theatre critic in town Jimmy Erskine (McKellen), finds himself suddenly in the crosshairs of the Daily Chronicle’s new owner David Brooke (Strong), he strikes a sinister Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land (Arterton) who is desperate to win his favour.

Sir Ian McKellan is best known for his role as Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings films – Sir Ian has hinted at Gandalf’s return in ‘The hunt For Gollum’ & he’s also known for his role Magneto in Marvel’s X-Men franchise. Gemma Arterton meanwhile made her feature film debut in the 2007 comedy St Trinian’s and played Bond Girl Strawberry Fields in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. In 2021, Arterton appeared in the First World War film The King’s Man as secret agent Pollyana “Polly” Wilkins / Agent Galahad of Kingsman, a role she will reprise in the sequel The Traitor King. Next up she will appear in Carl Tibbetts’s film Sweet Dreams
