Bill Maher is dumbfounded by Taylor Swift’s influence on male voters after Kamala Harris endorsement: “I must have this phenomenon gauged all wrong. I thought it would be women.”

What she wrote wasn’t particularly aimed at any gender. She was eloquent, and simply stated what she saw as steady, capable leadership skills in Kamala. I’m no Swiftie in that I wouldn’t fly to another state or country, or pay $500 to see her in concert, and I don’t fine all of her music to my taste; but I can respect her acumen and talent, and I can acknowledge thought that’s gone into a pragmatic message that appeals to a reasoned view of politics. 

You only have to be a reasonable person, disinterested in racism, bigotry and malevolence to see her point. Many people I know across political persuasions would be able to see her post as entirely sound. She didn’t even tell you whom to vote for; just that you pay attention and vote. If that’s alarming, we’re not really a very mature democracy at all.
