the entire show is an anxiety attack. i guess those can be fun, depending on who you are

personally, i’d put it in the drama category but that’s just me

  2. keep up this energy for the shows and movies that are in the wrong category every year. This is a television academy (and golden globe) problem. Seems strange that they decided to single out the bear when this been happening for years.

  3. I mean, are we gonna do with the same lead v. supporting actor categories? “Category fraud” is way bigger than just one show.

  4. I think every part of The Bear is funny, idk I just think people going through unfortunate events is very funny, especially since 90% of character problems come from bad planning

I think it’s a dramedy but the category it should belong to for award consideration and contention should be drama, because it’s too stressful and not funny enough. I will die on the hill that Matt Berry should have won last night and he was more than deserving for the whole run of What We Do in the Shadows!

  6. I think the argument could be made for the first two seasons being a comedy; season 3?  Nope, not even a little bit.

  7. I’m always down for any dunking on The Bear. Yes, it has been discussed to death but it is in no way at all a comedy. They can add the Faks all they want but it still ain’t funny.

  8. I might be wrong since my school days are long behind me, but according to the classic definition it is indeed a comedy. It still wouldn’t make sense though, since the other two categories in Ancient Greece would be tragedy and satire… the drama category wasn’t a thing.

  9. Watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 at different times and it just felt like being at my prep cook job where we took turns having mental breakdowns and smoke breaks in the deep freeze

I agree that it’s difficult to categorize some shows. Succession, Mad Men, The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, all of them dramas, were very funny at moments. In the case of The Bear, I feel like S1 was more comedy than the following seasons. I’m 100% biased, lol, but I feel for The Bear actors being asked about this. If anything, this is a producers/network choice.

  11. THERE IS NO DEBATE!

*Succession* is an infinitely “funnier” show, but you didn’t see them trying to sneak into the comedy category to steal awards (although it probably should have just for Kendall’s rap alone).

  12. Bowen and Joshua Jackson both giving very real reactions and justifying it being labeled a comedy while some others were squirming was interesting.

  13. Honestly, Succession was a much funnier show than The Bear, but I still wouldn’t call Succession a comedy show, I don’t know why The Bear get away with being called a comedy show because it has funny moments when so there are many show like that on TV and they aren’t considered comedy.
