Why Katy Perry’s Comeback Has Gone So Wrong

The album makes Katy sound like an amateur rather than someone who has been in the pop game for as long as she has. It’s embarrassing almost to the point where it seems like self-sabotage rather than a serious effort.

There is an aura of mystery about this record and I am very curious about the behind the scenes of the creative decisions that were made.

I’m starting to question whether her huge success in the earlier years of her music career was more a factor of timing, clever marketing and her beauty rather than talent and artistic instinct.

she’s very obviously manufactured and not genuine in her intentions, and the music blows chunks

  3. It’s the bad music – period.

It’s BAD BAD. I believe if it were decent, a lot of people (unfortunately) wouldn’t bat an eye that she continues to collab with Dr. Luke.

  4. I don’t really know Katy Perry but I feel like her appeal in the past was that she was kind of the humble, genuine, girl next door pop star.

Now she’s like this over sexualized, manufactured, trying to hard to be a star again woman. Everything just feels sooooo fake

  5. It’s just crazy cause from the start everyone could see and articulate what she did wrong and how it would go, but she and her team seemed so oblivious to what all of us saw

because her music always sucked and sounded cheap? and the people that enjoyed her music at her peak are fully grown adults now and no longer interested in following the charts, but she’s coming out with the same cheap sound?

  7. She’s also in some new ads for a Dolce and Gabbana perfume, which struck me as an odd choice for them. Does anyone know what the deal is with that?

My primary issue with Katy Perry is that I don’t think she has an artist’s perspective when it comes to her music at all. She just makes what she thinks people want to hear, and clearly with her new stuff she was way off.

  8. I think it’s bc when she was young, her wackiness or quirkiness was “cute” but as she’s gotten older it comes off as weird and desperate. I guess her whole vibe didn’t age well. Also, at the VMAs she had such an opportunity to stunt and wear something theme-y (her whole thing) and fun and she chose to wear a sheet and have wet hair. wtf, major missed opportunity to connect with the current generation or whatever.

  9. How are you gonna have a song about it being a “Woman’s world” and then have a closeup in the video of your boobs bouncing together and crushing Rosie the Riveter? The whole thing was tasteless.

Because her music is not good, her views are out of date, and also obviously because we’re not supporting Dr. Luke. “If you do the dishes, I will suck your dick” isn’t really the female empowerment message she thinks it is.

  11. She needs to get involved with a better producer. It’s kinda sad because I love her voice and she’s had some bangers, but man, she needs a total rebrand. She could lean into the aspect of her having a kid, which could work since a lot of her fans who started with her are now adults and have kids. I don’t want her to fail. I want her to ditch Dr. Luke and apologize for working with him.

  12. Meh I mean Katy has the catalogue to where she’sa legacy artist at this point. I on’tnthink she needed a comeback because pop music today is just an entirely new universe as what pop music was in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Everything is auto tuned out and this is a cout culture. Your clout is as important as how good the song is. Katy really is simply a legacy ctt know and she should be doing vegas residencies and big tours for the rest of her life.

  13. I’m having a hard time believing that everyone with some decision making power involved in this was dumb enough to actually think Women’s World would be a genuine hit. So, to some degree, I wonder if it was some sort of rage bait to get the conversation going? I don’t know, I have no horse in the race here because I never liked KP, but I’m just really baffled by this whole debacle. It seems like such a no brainer that this would be a really bad idea unless you only care about being a talking point for a few days/weeks because you are concerned people will just pay no attention at all otherwise.

  14. Unless you know a lot about pop culture, I doubt a lot of people know anything about the Dr Luke situation. People aren’t listening to a song on the radio and then googling the producer. In this case, it has nothing to do with Dr Luke. The songs are just rea, ly really bad. They sound so generic, and it’s like she hasn’t grown at all. It’s just boring.

  15. Because the songs are not good. And you have pop girlies like Billie, Chappell, Charlie and Sabrina on the charts right now.

  16. She’s been actively flopping since her Prism era. She quite literally hasn’t been relevant since Dark Horse, and that was 12 years ago. She seems to be the only one that didn’t know that.

  17. Honestly I think Katy just doesn’t have taste or a compelling artistic vision. She also has kind of a juvenile sense of humor. She was lucky with the timing of California Gurls that that appealed to people and songs like Teenage Dream were bops, thanks to Dr. Luke, but her aesthetic vision has gotten more and more off putting with each album and she stopped making more generic pop hits like Roar that still appealed to the general public. She doesn’t know how to fix the problem, since it’s an issue with her own judgment, so she’s brought back the man who made her big hits in a desperate attempt to recreate her earlier career, but he doesn’t have it anymore either. The fact that he’s a rapist and she’s now alienated a large chunk of people who might otherwise have listened to her music is just the cherry on top (not an allusion I swear).

  18. I mean
was she ever that great?

I kissed a girl was my clubbing days. I never felt she was bi? Like it seemed like it was a queer baiting song and given her very religious upbringing it just gave bs.

I did love hot n cold and teenage dream. Also California girls. But for me she was never that great.

I have never been interested in listening to any of her albums full length like I would Taylor, Beyoncé or Gaga.

She made some bad choices with the people on this album, and it sounded old. Not even retro old, just dated, stale, and forgettable. It’s so clear that she wasn’t the main reason why she had bops, it was Bonnie McKee.

She is trying to recapture former glories too. Soo much skin on show, looks like she is taking Ozempic
trying to act like it’s 2010. It just seems like everything that has happened in her life isn’t been authentically expressed to the world. What matters more is that she shows she is as appealing as she was back then. Like a boxer past their prime, even going back to Dr Luke was desperate to pretend the past 15 years didn’t happen.

  21. She gives off a pretentious vibe of ‘I’m better than everyone’ more than in her prime 2008 / 2014. Yet a decade after being pop culturally non relevant she acts more like she’s had Taylor Swift’s career. Sabrina Carpenter & Taylor Swift are the two top female artists right now.
