Excerpt:

“The first thing I did was music videos, it wasn’t modeling in the world of high fashion or anything like that. The truth is, I went to them with the mentality of ‘how could they not hire me? ’ I was so convinced that I could do it. At 22, I was sure that this was my world. I went to college, but I didn’t graduate, and I asked myself ‘what do I want to do with my life? ’ I felt the weight, in a positive sense, of parents who emigrated to the United States and almost immediately after I was born. I wanted to do something that would show them that their sacrifice of arriving in exile with nothing had made sense. I didn’t know what it was, but I knew I had to do something that would allow me to say ‘mommy, I’m going to buy you a house. ’ My mom keeps notes from me when I was seven and eight years old in which I tell her ‘I’m going to buy you a house. ’ That was my motivation.” The truth is, starting interview articles with a quote is only worth it if it gives you the most honest vibe from the interviewee… Well, that's how transparent, authentic, warrior and Latina is the Cuban-American mother, wife, actress, model, businesswoman and writer Eva Mendes .

  1. I miss seeing her in movies. she was a fun screen presence and always had great comic timing. she seems happy in semi-retirement, though.

I admire her willingness to set and hold boundaries, especially where her children are concerned. I enjoy the snippets she shares on social media but appreciate that that’s all we get.
