The King has shared a message of condolence after the death of Dame Maggie Smith, who was also a personal friend of both The King and Queen. Aside from many meetings in an official capacity, Maggie was often invited to stay with the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and frequently attended the Sandringham Flower Show with them as a personal guest.

The King threw Maggie a private 80th birthday party at Clarence House and was a guest at The Coronation.

Maggie was a great support to his charities and contributed to a reading of “‘Twas the night before Christmas” in 2020 to help raise fund for the Actors Benevolent Fund, of which Charles is Patron, that helps support actors and stagehands in England and Wales who need financial or medical help:
