Diesel, Vetements and Victoria Beckham accused of plagiarism in their recent collections by emerging designers Lele Lin, scorchvex and Zhouyouwang respectively

  1. **Personal opinion:** The Diesel ripoff of Lele Lin is blatant and undeniable.

The Vetements vs. scorchvex one is a little iffier, but scorchvex himself explained:

    >I MADE DIS IN 2023 tell me who else is doin wax jackets with irregular triangle patches. No one ,the VEX influence is real.

Now I look at a lot of avant garde/streetwear fashion, and it’s true now that I think about it. I can’t think of any other jackets that look like these two when it comes to the finer/subtler details in the construction. Also, Vetements ain’t shit for having Travis “Pied Piper of Astroworld” Scott walk their runway.

The Victoria Beckham/Zhouyouwang may also be debated. But the color, construction and the general aesthetics are pretty similar, even if none of those elements are unique on their own.

**Consequences:** No, there’s almost no legal case to be made by any of the designers who got ripped off. That’s because fashion design really isn’t well covered under intellectual property laws. The design of a look would have to be nearly identical to fall afoul of copyright laws. And patents and trademark are even more narrowly applied and almost certainly wouldn’t apply to any of these cases.

So all the aggrieved designers can do is get the word out, which is what I’m helping to do here. And maybe the only tiny justice they’ll get is that the plagiarism incidents help get their name out to a wider audience. With that in mind:

  2. 1 and 3 are highly suspect, 2 is a stretch. I would absolutely wear the original 3rd dress. It’s fine if these houses are running out of new ideas, it’s hard to sustain creative innovation. But compensate or hire new talent, don’t steal from it. Not chill
