When and why did the practice of royals marrying other royals come to an end?

The practice of royals marrying other royals had a political purpose. The purpose was to make alliances and ensure good diplomatic relationships. Now in most countries, royals no longer are in charge of governance and do not have the same political power, so the need just isn’t the same.
