okay so i get the baby thing but the reason they say weeks and then months until the baby is around 2 years old is because of how much they develop/to mark certain milestones as they should happen. i've never had a baby but i'm pretty sure pediatricians use this metric and if a parent is saying like "about 4 months" they MAY become unsure in the appointment. if the parent is used to saying 14 weeks old to an acquaintance, and they stop to do the math, they may be insecure that people will think they're neglectful or that they don't care about their kid enough to know their age (especially at such a delicate time in their development). plus, no matter what you say, people always have some judgment or dismissive comments to dole out to new parents that's masked as a joke. but new parents can be very sensitive about this stuff. (also new parents are usually so tired, they probably don't have the energy to give a shit about doing mental math.)
