Nia DaCosta was met with blame for The Marvels but Todd Phillips is met with sympathy for Joker 2…interesting

  1. The irony is she was almost definitely met with more studio interference than he was. Hers was failure by committee

  2. If someone fails trying to make something interesting and different, you’ll be a lot more forgiven than making a big stinking turd of a studio movie.

There’s plenty of terrible famous male directors out there making boring repeated trash.

    >A tale of two directors: Director A helmed a comic book movie for a massive studio earning a “B” grade CinemaScore, a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and an 82% from audiences. Director B also directed a comic book movie for a massive studio, became the first ever to earn a “D” grade CinemaScore, nabbed a 33% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 31% from audiences. The former brought in $46 million during its opening weekend while the latter, only $37.8 million. **Completely ignoring any creative prowess, artistic vision, or filmmaking craft** — the numbers are heartily in favor of Director A.

Why would you ignore that when comparing two directors? Phillips has a much longer history of movies that people generally like and DaCosta is newer and known to fewer people. People will be more willing to shrug something off from someone with a proven record than someone who is lesser known. It really doesn’t have to be deeper than that.

I mean, WB is clearly throwing Phillips under the bus (not underserved) while discerning commentators were able to see a Disney stitch-up a mile off.

And who is giving Phillips “preferential treatment”?

This article is complete crap and its sources are truly laughable.

Todd Phillips is amazing at what he does, may not like it, still amazing though, startling impressive.
