The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are making a four-day visit to Malta. On October 7, 2024, the Duke and Duchess were welcomed by the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Robert Abela, and his wife, Dr. Lydia Abela, at the Auberge de Castille in Valletta, on the first day of their visit to Malta to mark the 60th anniversary of Malta’s independence and celebrate the country’s shared heritage and continuing collaboration with the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also attended a meeting with the President of the Republic of Malta, Myriam Spiteri Debono, and her husband Dr. Anthony Spiteri Debono, at the Grandmaster’s Palace in St George’s Square, Valletta.

On the evening of the first day of their visit to Malta, the Duke and Duchess attended a Commonwealth reception at Whitehall Mansions, the Residence of the British High Commissioner in Ta’ Xbiex, where they met local dignitaries, Commonwealth Points of Light Award Winners, and Young Leaders.
