Kevin O’Leary shared a bold political take during a recent TV appearance with just days remaining until the 2024 presidential election.

The Shark Tank star, who appeared on CNN for a panel discussion on Thursday, Oct. 24, suggested that the way Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic presidential nominee was the most recent example of how the Democratic Party “has circumvented democracy.”

“Only 90 days ago, [Rep. Nancy] Pelosi went to [President Joe] Biden and said, ‘You need to step aside,’ and convinced him to do so,” the TV personality known among fans as “Mr. Wonderful” told his fellow panelists. Of Harris, O’Leary asked, “Is she the right person to drive this home?” and suggested that Biden also “questioned that.”

“He could have said, ‘We need to run a process in order for me to make this move,’ but they decided not to,” O’Leary continued. “I don’t know who ‘they’ is. Was it [former President Barack] Obama? Was it Pelosi? I don’t care who it was.”

After drawing a comparison between Harris’ nomination and stock picking, O’Leary declared, “This is the second time the Democratic Party has circumvented democracy,” suggesting that Democrats’ choice of Hillary Clinton as the party’s 2016 presidential nominee was the first time.

“When the Democratic Party decides to circumvent democracy, it’s like watching a group of money managers who just can’t beat the S&P,” O’Leary said while providing more context for his remarks later on X, formerly Twitter. He then alleged that “decisions were made behind closed doors, and we can only speculate who pulled the strings.”

“It’s reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s nomination,” his tweet said. “Handpicked candidates without letting the people decide. Sound familiar?”

Harris, 60, announced her intent to run for president the same day that Biden ended his bid for re-election in mid-July. Harris became the Democratic Party’s official nominee during the 2024 Democratic National Convention in mid-August. She is running against the Republican Party’s nominee, former President Donald Trump, in the election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
