Literally every woman I've ever been friends with has described having the thought "what could I possibly improvise as a weapon" any time they're in a dark alleyway. I don't see what's so difficult for fellow men to grasp about the idea that women are subject to more risk, and often think more acutely about their likelihood of danger, likelihood to survive, and how they could possibly fend off somebody who can physically pick them up off of their feet.
