I’m no expert but what the fuck?

I don’t even think the interviewer was asking this as a ‘gotcha’ moment. I think they didn’t think Kripke would find it ‘hilarious’ because it was so harrowing and hard to watch

What a disturbing answer to a very valid question

This is disgusting and I hope this story continues to gain traction.

I’m a fan of the show but the tone of those scenes in this week’s episode was immensely off putting.

sorry but what’s funny about rape and sexual assault?? and sexual torture?

  5. This show has always been edgy shock value garbage with no substance. Just like the shitty comics.

I knew this show had to too much graphic assault to be on the up and up, even if it has social commentary. This tracks. 🙁

Fact is.. even a blind person can see that this season is one giant debacle – a barely coherent mess of schlock and badly written interludes.. all tied together with the flimsiest of overarching plot in order to pad out the show for it’s final season.

Kripke – and by extension the writers – drank their own Koolaid long ago and now they’re so far up their own ass that they allow shit like this to hit the press without a care in the world.

In all honesty.. thats one of the worst goddamn things a showrunner has let slip publically in quite a while – some things need to be said with your inside-voice.. not that it makes the sentiment behind it any less disgusting.

The thing is, this show HAS depicted male sexual assault as horrific and traumatic. The second to last episode even had a scene where a man is SA’d and it was absolutely terrible because it depicted how powerless and scared the victim was. And that was the point of that scene was to demonstrate how horrible SA is.

Then with this past episode, they depict Hughie being SA’d as something humorous? Is it because a running gag on the show is that Hughie repeatedly gets dumped on or placed in uncomfortable situations for humor? Because if so, THEY MISSED THE MARK BY A WIDE MILE.

The character had something absolutely heartbreaking happen in the previous episode and now they make ha-ha about him being assaulted? Jeez what were they thinking?!

Also, the sexual situations in previous episodes that were played up for laughs involved super powers and the scenes were so over the top, the humor was derived from the ridiculousness of it all. But this last episode, it just someone being strapped down and SA’d by two others with no powers involved. It was so terrible.

I’ve loved this show from the start for it’s writing, cleverness, storytelling, satire and acting. But now, I’m strongly reconsidering. Yeesh was this not it.

Honestly, everything about this upsets me. Kripke really had a moment where he could say “yeah, male
S.A. happens and we minimize it. We should do better and acknowledge male victims of assault.”

But then again I have anger/frustration with some of the boys fandom because they’re up in arms against male Sexual assault and have called that scene gratuitous (which it is). But a a lot of these guys are the same folks who tell women to shut up when we complain about gratuitous rape scenes of women.

This show has always been casual about things that could be considered sexual assault. Except for the Annie storyline in S1 most sexual things are treated as a joke on the show so I can’t say I’m surprised that he didn’t see this scene that way. Tbf they do have Hughie break down at the end of the episode so clearly someone in the writers room saw it for what it was.

I’ve always suspected that Eric Kripke is really shady. I can’t really point my finger on it but anyone who prides themselves in creating a “progressive” tv show that portrays toxic masculinity and is very pro- women makes me think he doesn’t actually believe those things. If the rumors about his lead actor are true, then that would confirm my suspicions.

I finished S1 of The Boys but never picked up S2, so I have no idea what he’s talking about and while everything says about the fascist undertones of Batman sound more than fine to satirize with, that jump to sexual assault is just ???? Anyways, sexual assault is never funny, let alone “hilarious”.

Classic case of men buying too much into their own “genius”. Then deciding they can say/do whatever they want.
