Tottenham star Son Heung-min’s father fined for violating child welfare law at football academy after players are allegedly struck with corner flag and verbally abused

  1. As someone who used to be a fan of Son Heung-min and the Spurs, I am disgusted. His family used his name to lure kids into the academy to abuse them, very possibly with Son’s tacit approval (if not direct involvement). People who physically abuse kids should be in jail, not given a tiny fine.

    And given Korea’s extremely hostile legal and social climate towards victims speaking out, it’s almost certain that the abuse is much, much, much worse than what’s revealed here. To give you an idea of how bad the climate is, abuse victims who speak out in Korea can be imprisoned after being [sued by their abusers](https://keia.org/the-peninsula/problems-with-koreas-defamation-law/), because A) truth is not a defense against defamation in the country, and B) and defamation can fall under criminal law.

    For things to get bad enough that the hopelessly corrupt and plutocratic authorities actually did something (however minor), the actual abuse must’ve been horrifying.
